Aurora Mazzoldi is, first and foremost, an artist highly skilled in the application of color, with finely calibrated draftsmanship and layout. With grace, she leads the viewer by the hand into a world of subtle emotions, evoked by figures on which the gaze lingers, spellbound. The romantic aura that envelops her compositions carries a loving message toward life, through a figuration in which beauty overcomes the shadowiness of melancholy—though this melancholy remains implied in the expressive intensity of her creatures, or made explicit in phantasmic apparitions that point to uneasy reflections on the burden of living.
Faithful to the artistic ideal of recognizability of content, the painter works from a poetic intent, projecting into her work an unvarnished truth, subjectively perceived as an inner illumination. With perfect command of the palette, Aurora Mazzoldi proceeds with a painterly touch always and only aimed at declaring ethical and aesthetic values beyond time and history—values we believed had been lost together with the tradition of fine painting. While adhering closely to the figure, the artist leans in to listen to the secret harmonies of an entirely feminine universe, to transfer them into bodies, faces, and gazes.
In these poetic reconnaissances there appears a repertoire of existential situations—sometimes light and joyful, sometimes dramatic—yet always announced by masterful drawing and a chromatic composition made of virtuosic passages and deft calibrations between tones and countertones. These visual narratives are dense with meaning, built to explore the interiority of their protagonists, deliberately arranged in a symbolist key against undefined backgrounds, as if to underline their emblematic nature, outside everyday contingencies.
